Day 6 - Inverurie and Aberdeen
After breakfast we caught the train to a small town north and inland of Aberdeen called Inverurie. It took about 25 mins. The weather was dry but cloudy. Inverurie is a smallish affluent town although there are a lot of industrial units around the town and also a lot of new housing developments. We walked around the town and had coffee before going to a small riverside park where I left Paul on a seat and went off to explore myself. Small areas of the park were mown but the majority of area was left wild as there were several ground nesting birds. There were signs asking for dogs to be kept on a lead during nesting season but no-one seemed to take any notice although I didnt notice any dogs running into the long grasses. There were a lot of skylarks.
We then caught the train back to Aberdeen and walked around some of the streets near the station. The sun came our and it got a lot warmer. There is so much building and road construction going on. I can see why it is called the granite city - everything is grey. The Marischal College building was the most attractive and it is huge.
We went to the quay to check where we needed to get to the ferry terminal tomorrow as we had been warned that the Aberdeen Low Emission Zone was very close to the terminal and a wrong turning could cost us a £60 fine. We then caught a bus back to the hotel and had a coffee before taking the car for a much needed clean. Paul then stayed at the hotel while I went to explore Kincorth Hill nature reserve which is just behind the hotel. It was really lovely with lots of gorse in flower and such a lot of bird song.
We then had dinner in the hotel before an early night.
